Forum Submitter FAQ

Q: How do I add a new forum?
A: In the main Forum Submitter window, choose the Configuration menu and then Forum Configuration. If the Automaticaly check for support and get sections box is not checked, check it for easier configuration. Push the + button from the right side of the window. You are now presented with a dialog where you should input the forum name (by which you'll retrieve it later) and the forum address (for more info on what you should type in the forum address see below). Enter this info and press OK.
If you checked the Automaticaly check for support and get sections box, you'll see that the Software and Section fields for the newly added forum are reading Requesting... If the forum is supported, the software name and the number of sections will appear in those fields (depending on your connection speed and forum software it may take more or less to retrieve all the sections). Note that if you close the configuration window while the retrieval is in progress, the process is aborted.

Q: What should I write in the Address field when adding a new forum?
A: The rule of thumb is: write whatever you would write in your browser's address bar to show the forum's main page. With a note: if the address contains a page, remove it. For example if in your browser you see http://www.somesite.com/forum/index.php you should write in the Address field http://www.somesite.com/forum/. Actually the http:// and the last slash are optional.
Let's take a real example: http://www.bizhelpforum.com/forum/. For this one you should write in the address field http://www.bizhelpforum.com/forum/ (or equally www.bizhelpforum.com/forum).

Q: Why does it take longer to get the information for some forums?
A: On some forums (vBulletin in special) it can take a couple of minutes to retrieve all the sections. This is because vBulletin has the concept of 'subforums'. They may look like ordinary sections when listed on the main page but posting may be disabled on them. In this situation Forum Submitter checks each section individually to detect whether it can post there or whether it can remove it from the list. As this is a one time process you can just add the forums you want and leave Forum Submitter in the background to configure itself.

Q: What forum software is supported by Forum Submitter?
A: Forum Submitter 1.2 supports 10 different softwares:

  • vBulletin 3.0.3 and above*
  • phpBB 2.0.x and above*
  • Snitz Forum
  • WebWiz Forum
  • Liteboard v1 Laser
  • ColdFusion BB
  • Ultimate BB 6 (Classic)
  • Hyperboards
  • WowBB
  • WebBBS

*Forum Submitter may not work with forum software released after it has been released. Periodic updates will be available for registered user without extra cost.

Q: How do I send a message?
A: After adding all the forums you want to send a message to (see Q 1), press the Add> button in the main window. Select all the Forum/Sections you want to submit to. Type your message and the title for it and press Submit. You'll see the Submit status changing to Requesting...
Let's take a real example: http://www.bizhelpforum.com/forum/. You'll see this forum has a Test Forum section which we'll use. Add the forum as explained in the first 2 Q/A. Select the Test Forum, write your message and title and press Submit. That's all.

Q: Why do I receive Submit status: Failed on some forums?
A: There is more than one possible reason you'll get this status:

  • The connection with the server was interrupted. You can simply push the Retry Failed button.
  • You tried to submit to multiple sections on the same forum. It is usually a matter of etiquette to send the same message only once on a particular forum. In case you send it to multiple sections on the same forum, it will be posted in only one of the sections. If you really need to send it to multiple sections you can do it one at a time.
  • You tried to post to an area you don't have access to. Forum Submitter does it best to detect these areas but some may remain listed (sections where only admins can post for example). While this is rare, it's worth checking it.
  • The forum is not fully supported by the program yet. There are custom mods and hacks that may substanially modify the way the forum works. If you find such a forum please report it to us and we'll get back to you with an updated version

Q: My question isn't listed here. What should I do?
